Originally from Cape Town, South Africa I completed
a Bachelor of Music degree at Rhodes University
in Grahamstown, South Africa. The degree was a classical
degree with guitar as my major instrument.
As well as playing classical guitar I have also played
various other styles of music with different bands
over the years. I started out playing rock music in
a high school band. At university I played in a popular
band that had some top 20 success in South Africa.
We recorded and released our own CD and it took off
with the national radio stations.
I learned some jazz playing in jazz bands in Cape Town,
South Africa, a city that is well known for its jazz music.
The acclaimed annual Cape Town jazz festival is attended
by jazz lovers from around the world.
I experimented with playing other styles of music
and then settled into playing a lot of solo classical
and jazz guitar. I travelled to Japan for three and
a half years where I did a lot of performing on my own.
Whilst there I met my Canadian spouse and moved to London,
Ontario, Canada. In Canada I have done numerous
performances including playing on the 'A' Channel
morning show and performing for the president of the
University of Western Ontario.
As well as performing as often as possible I have also been a guitar
and music teacher for many years. In South Africa I was a high school
music teacher and have been a guitar teacher in Japan and now
currently in Canada. As far as teaching the guitar goes I teach all
styles on the electric and the acoustic guitar.
